Coming on the heels of the retail carnage of 2020, Coresight’s report is a welcome sign that perhaps the worst really is over. Announcements for new store openings are up more than 58% over last year. Store closure announcements are almost, but not quite, keeping pace with that figure, and they are down nearly 38% from last year.
Dollar General has announced far more openings than any other retailer and represents more than 20% of all announced openings so far this year, according to Coresight data.
