Description
Emil Martinez has spent more than three decades learning to tell what's actually worth a retailer's attention from what's just noise. In an industry that produces more technology every year than anyone can evaluate, that kind of judgment is rare, and it's what he brings to Retail Ready.
His perspective comes from the parts of retail most people only ever see one of. He came up through the data and measurement world, ACNielsen, NPD, IRI, and the standards work at GS1, learning how the industry knows what it knows. He spent more than a decade at Tata Consultancy Services leading its global retail consulting practice, where he ran work in advanced analytics and supply chain intelligence for some of the largest retailers in the world. Most recently, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Badger Technologies, leading the turnaround of an autonomous retail technology company from the operator's seat, where ideas meet the reality of the store.
That range is unusual. Emil has sat on the supplier side, the retailer side, and the measurement side of some of the most demanding relationships in retail, with deep work in and around the Walmart ecosystem running through much of his career. He has spent years at the leading edge of AI and computer vision in physical retail, responsible for turning it into results on the floor. It's left him with an operator's conviction that real performance is built through trust and disciplined execution, not through one-time transformation.
On Retail Ready and in his advisory work, that's exactly what he does. Emil reads the data for what's true and what matters, then helps teams decide what to act on first, and next, against a clear sense of where the value actually is. He's less interested in what a technology promises than in whether it works, what it takes to deploy, and whether a retailer is ready for it. For the companies building emerging retail technology and the retailers trying to make sense of it, that judgment is the whole point.
