Walmart is putting its logistics expertise to use helping other retailers master delivery – and creating new revenue streams. Home Depot is one of the first of these retailers to benefit from Walmart’s new service, called GoLocal. Starting in Texas, New Mexico, and Arkansas, Walmart’s GoLocal will begin delivering orders for Home Depot. Bulky items will not be eligible for the service, just supplies that fit easily inside a car. Home Depot sees the partnership as a way to achieve its goal of offering same-day or next-day delivery to 90% of the US population. For Walmart, netting such a high-profile customer for its brand new service can be nothing but a win.
Walmart is looking for ways to grow beyond its main retail business and build new revenue streams in areas such as advertising and fulfillment services for merchants. The GoLocal service is part of this strategy.
